Summary of Lecture | Course Description This course provides a broad introduction to changing roles and functions of museums in a digital era. Particular focus will include virtual museums, mobile applications, e-learning, and digital strategies. We also explore a trend and horizon of museum technology to shape a museum of the future. Students will perform article reviews and a project for a better understanding of the museum of our age. This course will introduce basics of museum studies, identify museum in a digital era, explore digital applications in museums, survey a trend and horizon of museum technology, and review best cases and literature. Course Objectives Explain what a museum is Identify technical issues in a museum context Identify topics in the technological perspective Practice museum review and planning Major Topics to be Covered Topics include Basics of museum studies: Definition, history, and functions Museum in a digital era: digital Strategy, museum informatics, and practical cases Digital applications in museums: digitization, 3D applications, interactive media, mobile application, and a virtual museum Trend and horizon of museum technology: literature, and best cases |
